Egyptian cotton has been cultivated in the Nile Delta for centuries. The conditions there — rich alluvial soil, a long growing season, and the particular humidity of the Delta region — produce cotton with a naturally long staple length that is difficult to replicate anywhere else in the world.
Not all Egyptian cotton is equal. The country produces a range of grades, from standard short-staple varieties to the rare, long-staple Giza classifications used by the world’s finest linen houses. Our Egyptian cotton collection uses certified genuine Egyptian cotton, grown in the Nile Delta — not a blend, not a cotton described as Egyptian-style, but the real thing, with certification to confirm it.
Why does certification matter? Because the Egyptian cotton market has faced significant fraud over the years. Independent testing has found that a large proportion of bedding sold as "Egyptian cotton" globally contains little or no actual Egyptian cotton. Certification is the only reliable way to verify what you are actually buying.
The Thread Count: 500TC, Honestly Explained
Our smooth Egyptian cotton collection is a 500 thread count fabric. Here is what that number means — and how we calculate it.
Thread count is the number of threads woven into one square inch of fabric — horizontal (weft) plus vertical (warp). The industry standard for calculating this varies: the commercial method counts individual plies within each yarn separately, while the strict technical standard (ASTM D 3775) counts each yarn as a single thread regardless of how many plies it contains.
Our 500TC is calculated using the commercial method. Under the ASTM D 3775 technical standard, the same fabric would carry a lower number. We are telling you this directly because we believe you should know exactly how the figure on the label is arrived at — and because a thread count number, without that context, tells only part of the story.
What the number cannot tell you is the quality of the fibre itself. Certified Nile Delta Egyptian cotton, woven into a smooth, sateen-finish fabric, produces a sheet that is genuinely soft, genuinely durable, and genuinely worth the investment — regardless of where the thread count sits on a comparison chart.
The Weave: Smooth and Sateen-Finished
This collection has a smooth, sateen-style finish — a weave that brings more yarn surface to the face of the fabric, producing a subtle sheen and a soft, silky hand feel. It is warmer and more enveloping than percale, with a draped quality that makes it particularly well suited to cooler months or those who prefer a softer, more luxurious feel against the skin.
The smoothness of this fabric is a direct result of the fibre length. Longer-staple cotton produces fewer exposed fibre ends on the surface of the yarn, which means a cleaner, smoother cloth — one that resists pilling and maintains its surface quality wash after wash.
