How to Care for Your New Towels
Pre-Wash
This initial step helps to rid the towels of excess dye and loose fibres that might otherwise cling to your skin post-shower. Utilize cold water and a mild detergent. Be careful not to overload the washing machine, as overcrowding can cause friction, leading to increased shedding.
White Vinegar
Add half a cup of white vinegar to your washing machine during the rinse cycle when laundering your towels. This natural ingredient aids in setting the dye, preventing fading, and minimizing lint shedding.
Trim Loose Threads
Regularly inspect your towels for loose threads. Resist the urge to pull them, instead use scissors to trim them carefully. Tugging on threads can intensify shedding.
Exercise Caution During Drying
The method by which you dry your towels also influences shedding. Refrain from using fabric softeners or dryer sheets, as they can leave behind a residue that exacerbates shedding. As towels tumble within the dryer, friction can be a shedding culprit. To mitigate this issue, consider using tennis balls or dryer balls during the drying process. These balls create space between the towels, reducing friction and fewer loose fibres.
Lint Roller
After each wash, you could use a lint roller to gently remove any lingering loose fibres clinging to your towels. It offers a quick and effective solution to maintain your towels in a shed-free state.
