Linen Care
Flax linen is one of the world’s oldest natural fibres — resilient, breathable, and beautiful. With a little care, your pieces will soften and improve with every wash.
Washing
Always wash linen on a gentle cycle with the water level set as high as possible — linen needs room to move freely. Overcrowding the machine can cause twisting and pull the fabric out of shape.
It’s best to wash flax linen on its own. If you need to include other items, ensure they are similar in colour and fabric weight.
Coloured or dyed linen should be washed in cool to lukewarm water — never cold or very hot, as high temperatures will cause fading. White linen can withstand warmer water, up to 70°C.
We recommend a natural, chemical-free laundry detergent to protect the linen’s natural fibres. Never use bleach (even on white linen) or fabric softener — both will damage the fibres over time.
Drying
Line drying is best. To minimise creasing, remove your linen while it is still slightly damp.
Coloured linen should be dried out of direct sunlight, as natural fibres will fade with prolonged sun exposure. White linen, however, will brighten in the sun — and light stains can lift naturally.
We do not recommend tumble drying, as heat can damage the fibres and shorten the life of your linen.
Ironing
All linen can be ironed. For a crisp finish, iron while still slightly damp using the linen setting on your iron (215–240°C). Pure flax linen gives the best results.
Dry cleaning
Dry cleaning is not recommended for 100% linen. Linen has been successfully cared for at home long before dry cleaning existed — gentle machine washing is all it needs.
Spots, marks & stains
Act quickly and treat gently — linen responds well to natural remedies.
- Ink — moisten with milk and allow it to be absorbed, then wash as normal.
- Blood — dilute with cold water as soon as possible, then wash as normal.
- Wax — rub with ice to harden, then gently remove.
- Wine — moisten with soda water, then wash as normal.
