August Wool & Silk Throw

The August throw is the larger expression of the same handwoven tradition as the August cushion — 60% wool and 40% silk, woven by artisans using techniques that have not changed in centuries. At 140 × 180cm, it is generous enough to use as a light blanket and present enough to leave draped across a sofa or chair always. The wool provides warmth and weight; the silk gives the fabric its natural lustre and the subtle unevenness of texture that is the signature of something made entirely by hand.

The chequered pattern in warm, neutral tones — the particular browns and naturals of undyed and lightly dyed fibre — reads differently in different light, and the patina deepens as the fabric relaxes and softens with use. No two throws are identical. The more it is used, the more itself it becomes: the fibres settle, the lustre deepens, and the throw acquires the particular quality of something that has been lived with rather than simply owned.
