A lumbar cushion at this scale — 40 × 90 cm — is not an accent. It is a foundation. Placed across the base of a made bed or along the back of a deep sofa, it sets the register for everything around it. The Velvet Lumbar Cushion in Chocolate does this with a particular authority: its short-pile cotton velvet has a directional nap that shifts from warm cocoa to something closer to dark earth depending on how the light falls and how a hand has last moved through it. It is a colour that grounds without heavying, that adds depth without closing a room down.

Chocolate sits at the richer end of the neutral spectrum — warmer than charcoal, more considered than tan. Against white linen it reads as contrast. Against oatmeal or sage it becomes part of the composition. Paired with warm timber, aged brass, or rattan, it finds its natural company. The elongated silhouette layers beautifully with square cushions in complementary neutrals, or stands alone as the single considered piece on a simply dressed bed.

Each cushion is individually crafted to order in our New Zealand studio, filled with a plump feather insert, and finished with a concealed zip. Please allow 2–3 weeks from order to dispatch — a window that exists because we will not rush it.
