Sky is not a colour that tries. It simply opens a room — lifting the eye, softening the atmosphere, introducing the kind of calm that feels effortless but is, in fact, the result of a very deliberate choice. Against white linen it reads as breath. Against warm neutrals, it anchors. Against deep tones, it illuminates.

The Velvet Lumbar Cushion is cut from 100% short-pile cotton velvet — a fabric with a quiet lustre, the kind that shifts as you move past it, catching light differently from every angle. The pile is close and glossy without being heavy; the hand is smooth, cool to the touch, and deeply satisfying in the way that only well-made velvet can be. Each piece is garment-dyed after construction, ensuring the colour penetrates evenly and holds its depth through years of use.

The 1cm flange border is a considered finishing detail — a subtle frame that gives the cushion its tailored, architectural quality. At 40 x 120cm, the lumbar proportion is generous: long enough to span a sofa back, substantial enough to support, refined enough to style.

Each cushion is individually crafted to order in our New Zealand studio. Please allow 3–4 weeks for your piece to be completed — this is the time it takes to do it properly.

Care Instructions

• Machine wash cold, gentle cycle — velvet benefits from a low-agitation wash
• Tumble dry low; remove promptly and smooth the pile by hand while warm
• Do not iron directly on the velvet surface — steam from reverse if needed
• Do not bleach or dry clean
• Store loosely — avoid compression to preserve the pile
